Percy Jackson and the Olympians – Book 4: The Battle of the Labyrinth – By Rick Riordan

Heeeey booooss,

Oh blessed world of ones and zeros! We have climbed the mountains and traversed the deserts and have at last washed upon your bountiful shores……Ok, this is starting to get weird. On with the review.

thebattleofthelabyrinthTitle: The Battle of the Labyrinth
Series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians; Book 4
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: Fantasy
Audience: Youth/Teen
ROTS Setting: EU, Modern, Magic, Mythology/Supernatural
Synopsis: Percy Jackson isn’t expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears at his potential new school, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse. In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos’s army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth – a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn.
Recommendation: Highly recommended!

Wow, just wow.

There’s a frantic pace to this book that perfectly fits with the dark, cramped passages of the labyrinth the heroes were running though. We get some islands of breathing room but every page is packed with so much awesome.

Annabeth takes on a more prominent role as she leads the quest into said labyrinth even though Percy is still the POV. This dive into her character is greatly appreciated and gives her a much needed boost.

The near harem-anime level love triangles was perhaps my least favorite part of the book. It also muddied what was supposed to be an important part of Annabeth’s character arc.

In summary, it’s as good as the rest of the series. It really is a solid series and I can’t wait to finish it…..again!

Robert

  1. So, I probably read these books 5 years ago? Maybe a little longer… This post has just reminded me why I loved them so much, and why I should probably read them again after my exams in the summer
