I can’t….I just can’t.
This book has only the most superficial connection to either of the previous books and it might not even be in the same genre anymore. I got maybe a third of the way in and I’m bored out of my mind. No clue where this could go and I just don’t care anymore.

Man, now you’ve got me wanting to re-read this trilogy to see what I think of it now. I think your thoughts about the first book being a standalone that was shoehorned into a trilogy are probably spot on.
I read the first book again back in 2012 (first recorded time was in 2000, but I’d read it multiple times before) but I never went on to read the next 2. Maybe I shouldn’t.
So I’m torn between heeding your warnings and finding out for myself 😀

If you’re capable of still liking the first even if the others are terrible then a journey of self discovery doesn’t sound that bad. But I can’t in good conscience encourage you to read sub-par books…..even if it might end up entertaining to watch.
