So, let’s get down to business.

To defeat—- the Lord Ruler and the Empire.

I KNOW you were singing that in your head!

I wonder how many other people struggled to get through the first part of the book. It went a bit slow, out of necessity. He had to build this complex world up for us so when it started going fast, we would all understand. But it went on sooo long. Honestly, it could be because of other things going on in my life when I was trying to start the book, but it took me nearly 2 weeks to get halfway through. 2 weeks for me is forever, when you consider that I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in less than 12 hours on release day.

Once I got to that point though, only studying for an exam and sleep got in my way of finishing that baby up in about 5 days.

Let me tell you guys, if you’re having issues reading it, just remember that thousands of people have suffered through the slow beginning and are now obsessed with the series, and you owe it to your curiosity to find out… because it is amazing.

Vin/Lady Valette is a pretty sweet character, going from this orphan skaa girl to infiltrating the nobility and getting one of the most influential heirs to fall in love with her. But, that guy? I’m not too sure. From the sneak peek of the 3rd book that was included in the first book (seriously, why the 3rd? Should have been a sneak peek of the 2nd!) my suspicions may be on target.

Kelsier is a charismatic leader with AMAZING planning abilities. Who else can set up a plan that will excruciatingly take years to carry out (besides the Inquisitors)? That aside, his personality was kinda annoying to me.

The character that really piqued my interest though was the Terrisman Sazeed. He was instrumental in transforming Vin, and his position as a Keeper is intriguing. He comes off as serious, though his sense of humor is fun. The one random line that sticks with me is when Kellen gives Vin a handkerchief (signaling that he wants to court her) not too long after a Misting gave her one. Sazeed: “Is that another handkerchief my Lady? You have been busy.” (I know, you guys are probably rolling your eyes going “Oh Lisa, of course you liked that part and found it funny.” I can’t help it, a little bit of romance and toying with the boys hearts is always kinda fun to read.) I’m glad we were able to learn more about Sazeed by the end, but I want to know more!

The grand mysteries though that I feel like I need to know is 1. If there’s an eleventh metal, there must be a 12th. What is it and what does it do?   2. The Lord Ruler said that he had done all this to protect mankind. WHAT is he protecting mankind from? And will the ash ever go away?

Thankfully… I will know more. Because tomorrow, book 2 should arrive at our doorstep. Then, book 3 is waiting on the shelf. *Insert evil laugh here*  Thanks for encouraging me to get started on this series, it’s amazing, I love the world that Brandon Sanderson has created (even if it took forever to set up.

Now, if you’re still reading this and you STILL haven’t read the book, please go read it. The last half of the book more than makes up for the first, and I’m pretty confident you won’t regret it.

Till next time,

Lisa

I struggles through the first two as well the first time i read this series. Book 3 is the best in the series and makes the struggle totally worth it.

#2 was actually my least favorite in my first read through of the series. It probably still is just because 1 and 3 are so good but I find that I enjoy 2 more than I previously did when I re-read it. I don’t know if you have met Tindwyl (sp?) yet but her and her relationship with the main character that she gets involved with (trying to avoid spoilers!) is one of my favorite love stories ever even though there’s not a huge focus on it..

  2. I am one of the bloggers who isn’t a rabid Sanderson fan. But even I enjoyed the first Mistborn book quite a lot (I think its his best book still, but that opinion doesn’t always make me popular).
