Epic Failure – Book 1: Mechanical Failure – By Joe Zieja

Jared

Thanksgiving is coming up quick. This year we’re home and going to try and create some of our own traditions. Ya, we’re slacking on that part because it’s never been a big part of our lives. Really it’s about the memories, so we’re going to make an effort this year.

Planetfall – by Emma Newman

Jared,

How was your Halloween? Ours was great. We had a Trunk-n-Treat on the 29th and then Halloween night we went to a nearby neighborhood that we went to last year…..They give out full size chocolate bars.

Planetfall.jpgTitle: Planetfall
Author: Emma Newman
Genre: Science Fiction
Audience: Adult
ROTS Setting: CU, Near-to-Distant Future, Cerebral
Synopsis: Ren traveled millions of miles on faith alone. A faith that was based on a person. Now twenty years later and utterly faithless, she must confront the truths she hides and the lies she uses to perpetuate it.
Recommendation: For adults. Also this isn’t a space opera or action adventure and more cerebral. I definitely recommend this book.

The Dagger and the Coin – Book 2: The King’s Blood – By Daniel Abraham

Hey Jared,

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. Bigger and better than Game of Thrones in a lot of ways. I just love the world and the tone and…..everything really. Sure there are things I don’t like but they don’t detract from the experience.

kingsbloodTitle: The King’s Blood
Series: The Dagger and the Coin; Book 2
Author: Daniel Abraham
Genre: Fantasy
Audience: Adult
ROTS Setting: UU, Medieval, Dragons (Extinct), Magic
Synopsis: The board has been set, the pieces arranged, and change is on the horizon. Cithrin chaffs beneath stifled progress. Marcus obscures his true desires, even from himself. Dawson sees the approaching storm and moves to end it before it can begin. Geder finds himself with untold power and little idea how to use it. Clara tries vainly to keep her family together and safe.
Recommendation: Adult, but mid to late teen could probably read it too. Highly recommended!

Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere Universe Movies?

I’m too excited about this to not write something about this. It’s really early to be so excited but I can’t help it.

According to Variety, DMG Entertainment has purchased the license and movie rights to Brandon Sanderson’s entire Cosmere Universe. The Way of Kings, Book 1 of the Stormlight Archives, is supposedly being fast tracked with The Final Empire, Book 1 of the Mistborn Trilogy, hot on its heels. For the specifics you should read the original article.

If I’ve learned anything about movies, it’s not out until it’s out. Rights are frequently sold but rarely does anything come of it. I’m excited but I won’t be holding my breath.

Brian’s Saga – Book 2: The River – By Gary Paulsen

Hiya Jared,

I’m back with another non-Scifi/Fantasy…..more specifically the sequel to the first one, Hatchet. Ya, I should find more survival books because that seems to be the only other genre I can stand. If you have any suggestion please share.

theriver.pngTitle: The River
Series: Brian’s Saga; Book 2
Author: Gary Paulsen
Genre: Fiction
Audience: Teen
ROTS Setting: CU, Survival, Canada, Beaver, Whitewater, Lightning, Poop
Synopsis: Brian survived 54 days in the Canadian wilderness. Just when he’d finally adjusted to modern life again, he’s asked to return. And he says yes, but this time he won’t be doing it alone.
