This will either be the last book in the series for a while or the last one strictly in order……I haven’t decided which. You see, I don’t own #8 and the library doesn’t have any of the other books beyond #6 (and that was a three month wait). So I can either wait until I happen to find the next book while book hunting or I can skip it.
Title: The Stranger
Series: Animorphs; Book 7
Author: K. A. Applegate
Genre: Science Fiction
Audience: Youth
ROTS Setting: CU, Modern, Aliens
Synopsis: Okay. Rachel and the other Animorphs have finally found the new entrance to the Yeerk pool. They’ve even figured out a way to sneak in. The infamous roach morph. Time. Now Rachel, Cassie, Marco, Jake, Tobias, and Ax are in for their wildest trip ever. They’re going to get the chance to decide whether they want to stay on Earth and fight the Yeerks. Hello again Jared,
Since I finally read Words of Radiance I figured I needed to go and read this novella after skipping it in Arcanum Unbounded. I’m glad I did.

Hey Jared,
I actually wasn’t going to get to this until next month but with DNFing Provenance it gave me an opening.
Title: Blade of Empire
Series: The Dragon Prophecy Trilogy; Book 2
Author: Mercedes Lackey & James Mallory
Genre: Fantasy
Audience: Adult
ROTS Setting: UU, Medieval, Dragons, Higher Magic, Prequel
Synopsis: As Vieliessar confronts the first waves of the forces of Darkness, her destined Bondmate, Runacar, leads a rag-tag group to war. For centuries, the Elves have hunted the Otherfolk minotaurs, gryphons, dryads, and more considering them beasts. But they have a complex society, Runacar discovers, and though he is an Elf, takes it as his mission to help them reclaim their lands from his former friends and allies.
Recommendation: Adult or late teens. I suggest having at least some knowledge of the World of Obsidian before reading this. That’s not required but I feel it would make just an OK experience into a great one.

Hey Jared,
Going to mix this one up a bit since it’s not the usual sort of thing we review.
This has Sanderson’s fingerprints all over it, but it’s not quite enough for me. My biggest gripe with comics and graphic novels is the length. Sort of like with short stories but made more frustrating because often the story just stops so it can pick up in the next issue. Which you then have to wait months (or in this case a year and a half) between issues. It’s like taking a novel and then releasing a chapter at a time.
For what it is, I liked it. The art was amazing and the magic and world are classic Sanderson. The characters are ok, but for being the equivalent of only a chapter in, there’s not much to say.
Ya, satisfied my curiosity and I’m done. The only reason I even got this far was because this was in the Sanderson HumbleBundle. No regrets but there just isn’t enough here for me. I’ll probably come back to this once the series is finished or the world is tied into the Cosmere more. For now I’ll focus on his other work.
Robert

I stopped after 3 chapters (75 pages). The MC/POV character, Ingray, was far too YA for me and the two other characters completely lacked a personality. The premise couldn’t hold my attention and the world-building had interesting elements but it lacked cohesiveness. We’re treated to at least 4 info-dumps in those first 3 chapters but not one to tell us how and why a new set of pronouns are to be used. Ms. Leckie once again springs abnormal pronoun usage on the reader but fails to explain or integrate it so the learning curve is near vertical.
Basically there isn’t any reason to keep reading but it’s often burdensome to do so. There isn’t anything I want to know more about, including what happens to the characters. So I’m cutting loose quick and moving on.
Robert
Hiya Jared,
I’ve finished this for a few days already but I’m having trouble describing my experience. I keep defaulting to, “It’s awesome!” and can’t seem to get past that.
