Hype Train #9 – 2018 Is Looking Good Already

In my recent scouring of the Internets for new books from my author-watch list, 2018 is beginning to come together. This isn’t surprising since we are already well into the Fall publishing window that we’d start hearing about Spring 2018.

Hype Train #8 – Sanderson Update

Honestly, I’m just too lazy to go looking for more book news. So I’ll just stick with the update Brandon Sanderson gave a couple of weeks ago (Aug.31.2017).

apocalypseguard.jpg

In it he says that the Oathbringer manuscript  is officially finished with the traditional “stair toss” of said manuscript down a flight of stairs. We’re also informed about a Stormlight Archive soundtrack kickstarter (which I’m seriously considering), and a coming Mistborn coinage kickstarter.

We’re informed that his next writing project will be Apocalypse Guard, which he plans to write in quick succession over the next 6 months with breaks between for a couple of novellas. (Legion #3 might be one of them.) Release for AG looks to be starting Fall 2018 and then yearly after that, Mid-2019 and Mid-2020 respectively.

2017
June–August: Apocalypse Guard One (Fall 2018 Release)
Early September: Legion 3 (Sometime 2018 Release)
Late September–December: Apocalypse Guard Two (Mid 2019 Release)
Late December: Random Novella
2018
January–March: Apocalypse Guard Three (Mid 2020 Release)
April–July: Wax and Wayne Four (Series finale, Fall 2019 Release)
August–December: Undecided (Rithmatist 2, maybe?)
2019
All months: Stormlight Four (Fall 2020 Release)

Even though we’re looking over the next 3 years it’s still very exciting and deeply impressive to see how dedicated Mr. Sanderson is. Only 3 months for a Middlegrade/YA novel or novella in a month! DAAAAANG!

Hype Train #2 – Dark Prophecy Cover + Snapshot + Oathbringer + Blade of Empire

Welcome to the second stop on the hype train where I fawn over recent book news and coming releases……Yep, fawn over them.

thedarkprophecyThe Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan (Trails of Apollo #2) is headed for it’s release May.2.2017 and got it’s cover recently. While an exciting next step the cover doesn’t do anything for me. It’s not a bad cover, but sort of….meh. I am very interested to find out what’s behind that cover though. More so since Magnus Chase #2 was so awful I’m concerned this one will also be a let down.

Brandon Sanderson’s Snapshot should be released next month. Set in the Reckoner universe it’s supposed to be targeting an adult audience. I had assumed it would only be a limited edition hardcopy release and finding a specific release date proved unusually difficult. Maybe it’s just me but you’d think that if you were taking limited edition pre-orders you’d have the release day clearly visible. Thankfully I found the Amazon listing a couple of days ago, which had the release day (Feb.17.2017) and have since pre-ordered it. I’m hoping I can read it quick and post a review the next day, Saturday, or Sunday at the latest.

Another Brandon Sanderson book I’ve found a tentative date for is Oathbringer (Stormlight #3). I found it’s Amazon listing which indicated Nov.14,2017 as the possible date. In the 2017 State of Sanderson it was only mentioned as being “November 2017.”

Lastly, I’m super hyped about Blade of Empire by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory (Dragon Prophecy #2). Set in the World of Obsidian, it’s high on my list of most anticipated books ever as the first book came our several years ago and then nothing for what felt like ever. I have barely been keeping myself from reading that first book but until there is a firm date I won’t even consider it. The latest news puts the release in October or November, depend on who said what. I honestly don’t care which so long as it’s one of them.

That’s it for this hype train, I hope you’ve enjoyed the trip and will climb aboard next time……Speaking of next time it’s looking like February and March are going to be very busy with New Releases so it could be April before you have to endure another. Or I could do one anyways if the hype calls for it.

Hype Train #2 – Dark Prophecy Cover + Snapshot + Oathbringer + Blade of Empire

Hype Train #1 – M. L. Forman + Dragonwatch + Winds of Winter

This is the first ever Hype Train post. Basically just stream of consciousness and fangirl/boy screams over books I’m excited for their release. You can expect more hype on the Tuesdays without new release announcements.

If you’ve ever ventured deeper into the depths of the blog you’ll probably have come across our New Release Calendar where I keep the latest info on my favorite authors and their newest work. Last week I trawled through my author list and added over a dozen new books being released this year. Usually it’s not nearly so many but hadn’t checked since before Thanksgiving. Amazon is one of my main sources, but author websites and blogs are equally productive, if more time consuming. I haven’t found an effective way to check publishers directly but that’s another source I’m eager to exploit.

So right now my my biggest hype is for The Axe of Sundering by M.L. Forman (Adventurers Wanted #5). He posted on Facebook over the holidays which is kind of a big deal. The book was originally slated for release in December of 2014 but sadly Mr. Forman had a stroke which delayed it indefinitely.

I plan to reread the series in preparation once an actual release date has been set, which I’m hoping will be announced sometime this spring.

dragonwatchfbDragonwatch by Brandon Mull (Fablehaven, Dragonwatch #1) is another I’m eager to get my hands on. Plus look at that cover! His Fablehaven series was pretty good, so this sequel series has my interest piqued. The basic premise it that there are magical preserves to protect magical creatures from us and us from them. A set of siblings comes to visit one being operated by their grandparents. Danger, adventure and plenty of magic ensue and crisis narrowly averted. It’s a great series for younger readers…..and older ones too.

According to both the authors website and Amazon, it’s expected to be released Mar.14.2017. I hope to R+R (Read and Review) at least the first book in Fablehaven before then so I’m all ready for it.

Lastly, what would a hype train be without the anticipation and dread of Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire #6). It will come out when it comes out, but Mr. Martin sure does take his sweet time. Zero speculation on when to expect it because it’s been wrong. Every. Single. Time. That being said I hope it will be sometime this year, but realistically I know it’s probably a pipe dream.

We’re going to stop there because I could go on forever. Go take a look at the New Release Calendar and comment here if I’ve missed something you think I should be hyped about.
